Gary Schofield was born in Palmerston North, New Zealand. He won his first National Art Competition at the age of eight years. His paintings hang in some of the most prestigious locations around the United States including Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon. In 2016 Gary was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services as an artist and to New Zealand–United States relations.
This painting was commissioned by the 2012 Leavers as a leaving gift to St Paul's Collegiate School. Gary produced a unique and dramatic painting of the school's Student Centre.
Gary is a Collegian of St Paul’s Collegiate School (School 1970 - 1974).
