Rodney is an Auckland-based artist who is well known for his work in the field of printmaking. He graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 1973 with an MFA and first-class honours. He went on to study printmaking at the Central School of Art and Design in London, graduating in advanced studies in printmaking in 1974, and was awarded the QEII Art Award in 1980 and 1983.
Fumpston's use of colour and concept is often described as flamboyant and intoxicating; he uses colour as a way to celebrate tension between solid forms and fluid modes of mark-making. His works draw reference to the conflict between fundamental ideologies located in Romantic and Classical Art History.
Rodney is a Collegian of St Paul’s Collegiate School (Williams 1960 - 1964).
