Project Samoa - Tapa Cloth

'Project Samoa'

2010

Bark Cloth

In 2010 a group of St Paul’s students spent 11 days in Samoa building a fale as part of the Samoan Tsunami relief program.

The aim of the trip was to build a fale for Edmund and Sina Taufua of Lalomanu village who lost their three children, their home, and business in the 2009 Tsunami. The St Paul’s team consisted of 12 students from the Year 13  construction class, teacher Heta Smith project coordinator, Peter Sullivan construction manager, Marcus Wilkins and Logan Sullivan.

On the final evening, Edmund and Sina made an emotional farewell speech and presented the students with a beautiful handmade tapa cloth for the school.

The trip was an outstanding success and the team returned with wonderful memories and were richly rewarded by the friendship, hospitality and goodwill extended to them.

Location: Chapel of Christ the King (Hamilton Campus)
