'Zelandia Sculpture - Ganmede with his eagle'
1983
Bronze
Terry Stringer is a renowned New Zealand sculptor whose bronze works draw on classical and cubist influences.
This artwork was commissioned by Rob Cox (Sargood 1959–1962), a Collegian, in 1983 for his underground home on Waiheke Island. The bronze sculpture depicts Ganymede and the eagle. Drawing playfully on classical mythology, the work references the ancient story of a mortal youth carried skyward by an eagle, connecting enduring myths with contemporary settings and inviting viewers to encounter history reimagined in the present.
This artwork was gifted to St Paul’s by Collegian Robert Cox (Sargood 1959–1962).
