Venessa's Journey

My voice is taking me on a journey of massive proportions and I’m grateful for the doors that are opening for me now I’m at St Paul’s.

Two years ago, my father was in a serious work accident which left him struggling with a brain injury and hospitalised for a few months.  It was hard to see an active person become dependent on those around him.

While it has been hard supporting my father through such a terrible accident, with the support of my family I was given an amazing opportunity to leave my small rural environment and join this ‘big place’ called St Paul’s.

Arriving at St Paul’s, full of nerves and apprehension, I had the support of the prefects and senior students along with Miss Williams.

I’ve been privileged to have been taught operatic singing over the past seven years outside of school by St Paul’s teacher, Mr Campbell. Now, I am enjoying the range of musical opportunities available to me, which is challenging and extending my singing talent. I’ve met St Paul’s Collegians who are now studying music at Waikato University, which is inspiring me to reach even further with my goals.

As well as singing, I am getting involved in all aspects of school life. I am excited about my future and am very grateful for my sponsor, Kath, and her belief in me.
