We are saddened to hear of the passing of Sandy Koopman (Staff 2008 - 2025). St Paul's Collegiate School community acknowledges the sudden passing of long-serving staff member Sandy Koopman on Saturday, 6 December, following a short period of ill health.
For nearly 18 years, Sandy was the heart of the Great Oaks Trading School Shop. As one of the first faces that families encountered on their St Paul’s journey, whether it was helping a nervous Year 10 prepare for Tihoi, guiding parents through uniform lists, or sharing a light-hearted story to ease first-day jitters.
Sandy’s connection to our school extended far beyond the shop doors. Her role saw her engage with staff across the Management Centre and wider campus, building friendships through her humour. Many staff members recall visiting the shop not to make a purchase, but simply to chat with Sandy - to hear a story, share a moment, or enjoy her unique perspective on life. Her stories of her beloved cockatoos were legendary.
Her passing is a significant loss for our community, particularly for the team that worked closely alongside her each day. We extend our love, prayers, and support to Sandy’s husband, Wim, and their whaanau during this time of immense grief. At Sandy’s request, there will be no funeral. Rest in peace, Sandy. Rise in glory. You will be missed.
