Graeme Bethell, a proud member of Sargood House from 1962 to 1966, passed away on 6 October 2025 in Canada at the age of 77. Born on 8 January 1948, Graeme’s legacy is one of intellect, global contribution, and unwavering commitment to environmental progress.

After completing a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Ecology at Massey University, Graeme pursued a Master of Science in Pollution Control Management at Leeds University in the UK. In 1974, he settled in Canada, where he spent the next five decades building a distinguished career in environmental management, infrastructure, and renewable energy.

Graeme held senior leadership roles across both the public and private sectors, including serving as President and Co-founder of Pivotal IRM Inc., and leading environmental services at Earth Tech Canada and Corix Utilities. His work spanned strategic planning, pollution prevention, wastewater and solid waste management, energy systems, and environmental auditing. His projects – from British Columbia to California – reflected a deep commitment to sustainable, integrated resource solutions.

Throughout his career, Graeme earned the respect of his colleagues and industry peers, serving as Chair of the Air & Waste Management Association (1998–2000) and contributing to many high-impact environmental projects in North America.

He is survived by his three children and four grandchildren, and is fondly remembered by his brothers, Alan and James, who also attended St Paul’s. Graeme’s life and work exemplified the values of service, leadership, and global citizenship.
