In the charm of Harington Boarding's garden, their story unfolded as Heta Smith (staff 1998 - 2012) and Margie Sanders (staff 1996 - 2012) exchanged vows and became husband and wife. The chosen date was Labour Weekend of the year 2000, a time when the Harington girls had returned to their homes, leaving the Harington garden peaceful. It was an intimate ceremony with St Paul's Chaplain Reverend Marcus Edwards officiating and their four daughters by their side.
The Smiths spent the following 12 years living and working on campus, being an integral part of the St Paul’s community. The garden at Harington witnessed not only their union but also the beginning of a shared journey.
Heta and Margie now reside in Taranaki, both teaching at Francis Douglas Memorial College.
Whakatauki - Proverb
Kia hora te marino; kia whakapapa pounamu te moana; kia tere te karohirohi i mua i tou huarahi. May the calm be widespread; may the surface of the ocean glisten like the greenstone; and may the shimmer of summer dance across your path forever.
