Gary Schofield (Hall 1970-74) and Vice-President of the St Paul's Collegians Inc attended the event to meet with staff who had taught him. Recently he found himself in his childhood home which he says, "is frozen in the past". Among the well-preserved items from his childhood, he stumbled upon his old chemistry set, a part of his youthful curiosity. Memories of Mr Mike Shaw, his chemistry teacher in 1972, came rushing back and Gary recalled how much he enjoyed learning in Mr Shaw's class. The very next day, coincidentally, Mr Shaw was present at the past staff morning tea.
Gary says, “Mike Shaw's presence was a reminder of my enthusiasm for science and genuine passion for teaching, leaving a lasting impression on me.”
From the window, they observed the bustling new generation of students, acknowledging their role in shaping New Zealand, Aotearoa's, future. The morning tea is an annual event for past staff to catch up and see the changes in the school and acknowledge the impact these educators made in our community.
